Grant Recipients

Grant supports Safe Start program, which provides family-based therapy to low-income children who have experienced trauma, with a primary focus on children exposed to violence. Funding is utilized for family-centered services, including therapy sessions, case managements, crisis support and intervention and follow-up support services.

Grant supports Family Hope Center, which provides evidence-based trauma therapy to 300+ children and young adults who have experienced sexual abuse and other trauma at no cost. Therapists work with children and caregivers to identify challenges and develop ways for the child to overcome the trauma of the abuse.

Grant supports Behavior Health Services program, which provides trauma-informed clinical counseling for children and youth in vulnerable communities where gang violence, poverty, abuse, and neglect are prevalent early in life. The program addresses the unmet needs of the at-risk children and youth through therapy and case management to help them succeed in their homes, schools, and communities.

Grant supports Trauma Treatment Program (TTP), which aims to increase the availability of therapeutic mental health services for children and families in Chicago’s most high-risk, vulnerable populations. TTP targets youth struggling with the effects of trauma, including developmental delays, emotional and behavioral problems and other conditions that adversely affect the quality of their lives.

Grant supports Children’s Program, which provides therapeutic assistance to children residing in the agency’s emergency shelter and transitional housing as well as those receiving services through its Community Outreach Program. The program’s main goal is to increase the resiliency of children who have been dually traumatized by domestic violence and/or homelessness.

Grant supports Violence Recovery Services (VRS), which provides counseling and case management services to children exposed to violence and trauma. VRS also includes legal advocacy, individual counseling for adults, children and families and support groups specific to adult survivors of domestic violence and participants struggling with addiction and unresolved trauma.

Hephzibah cares for children who have experienced serious trauma due to severe abuse and neglect. An essential part of its mission is to ensure that children are placed in stable and supportive foster care homes. Grant supports its Family-Based Services, which are committed to supporting and strengthening the relationships between foster children, foster parents, and their biological families.

Kaleidoscope serves children and families throughout Cook County who are facing challenges through its five core programs: Enhanced Clinical Community Sport, Foster Care & Adoption, Intact Family Services, Independent Living, and Intensive Placement Stabilization. Grant supports these programs that seek to empower children, youth, and families impacted by abuse and neglect.

Grant supports Healthy Families program, a home-based child abuse and neglect prevention program for young mothers living in underserved communities. The program operates through home visits and supportive services designed to provide mothers with the resources to nurture, educate, and protect their children.

Latin Women in Action serves as the longest standing Latina-led, Latina-serving organization in the US. Grant supports its Children’s Therapy program, which provides support to children who are survivors of sexual violence, have witnessed domestic violence or have parents enrolled in its healing services.

One Hope United offers a diverse array of early childhood education, prevention, intervention, and community-based programs for families in Cook County. Grant supports the Extensive Community Home Outreach program, which empowers families to effectively demonstrate positive family functioning through enhancing communication and conflict resolution skills.

Grant supports Mothers Project, which provides comprehensive assistance to young women with serious mental health challenges who are pregnant or caring for children. The program seeks to enhance parent-child bonds, increase the mother’s coping skills and distress tolerance, decrease the risk of child abuse, and promote school readiness.

Grant supports Triple Play, a dynamic health and wellness program that demonstrates how eating right, staying fit and forming positive relationships lead to a healthy lifestyle. Triple Play occurs every day throughout the year at all 20 Clubs.

Grant supports Inner City Youth Baseball (ICYB), which provides youth living in high-risk communities the opportunity to play baseball in a safe and structured environment at no cost to the families. Throughout the ICYB season, coaches educate participants on fitness and healthy lifestyle principles in addition to baseball fundamentals.

Common Threads seeks to address the obesity crisis and hunger paradox by delivering hands-on cooking and nutrition education to children and families in underserved areas. Grant supports its Healthy Cooking and Nutrition Education program, which helps kids and families experience the joy of cooking while learning how and why healthy foods fuel the body.

Girls in the Game engages girls from childhood through adolescence through a variety of physical activities. Grant supports its Sports and Leadership National Summer Camp, which provides 120+ girls with the opportunity to experience new sports, learn about healthy lifestyles and attend field trips.

Grant supports South Side Health Care Program, which seeks to eliminate health disparities and improve health outcomes experienced by LGBTQ individuals through research, education and health and wellness services.

Grant supports Premier Kid Program, which offers outpatient primary care to infants and children who are at risk due to developmental problems and/or medically complex conditions. The program recognizes the importance of providing intensive support to young children and their families through a child and family-centered approach.

Grant supports Youth Zone Chicago, which provides year-round athletic activities to 600+ youth with an emphasis on teamwork, leadership, and healthy life choices. The program’s objective is to provide physical activities for low-income youth that promote positive body image, nutrition, and healthy living.

Spectrios empowers children and adults with vision loss, regardless of income, to optimize their visual capabilities and independence through the use of prescriptive tools, technology, rehabilitative training, and inspiration. Grant supports its Seeing is Believing program, which provides free services to 7,800+ visually impaired low-income children attending CPS schools.

After School Matters provides Chicago public high school teens opportunities to explore and develop their talents, while gaining critical skills for work, college and beyond. Grant supports its Out-of-School Time programming in Arts, Communications & Leadership, Sports, and STEM.

Bottom Line helps first-generation students from low-income backgrounds stay in college and complete their degrees. Grant supports its Access and Success programs, which match each student with an advisor to help navigate the application process and provide comprehensive support throughout the college experience.

Grant funds AIM High, a long-term, structured college success program that helps underserved youth of color acquire the passion, knowledge, skills, and confidence to attend and graduate from college and gain the skills needed to succeed in the workplace.

Mercy Home saves young lives by providing a residential treatment home for children and young adults that have experienced abuse, homelessness and neglect or are struggling with family issues. Grant supports its Academy Program, which helps youth gain the academic and personal skills to harness their education for future success.

College Possible makes college admission and success possible for low-income students through a curriculum of coaching and support beginning junior year of high school through college graduation. Grant supports its Chicago program at six local high schools. AmeriCorps service members serve as coaches and are trained to assist with the challenges students face navigating higher education.

Grant supports Genesys Works’ efforts to provide pathways to career success for high school students in underserved communities through skills training, meaningful work experience, and impactful relationships. The agency serves low-income high school students in CPS and its mission is to enable youth to break the cycle of poverty and enter the economic mainstream.

iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower first-generation students from low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions. Grant supports its Post-Secondary Program, which is designed to provide mentors and students with the knowledge, resources, and tools to successfully complete a two- or four-year degree.

Noble is comprised of 18 campuses and serves 12,000 students that have a high probability of dropping out of high school or not attending college. Grant supports its College & Alumni Program, which is committed to maximizing the number of Chicago students who complete high school and graduate college by providing guidance and support.

Grant supports the Posse Foundation’s efforts to identify diverse, talented young leaders from urban communities who are capable of academic success at elite colleges and universities. Its primary focus is on students’ leadership talents, problem solving abilities, academic potential, and motivation to succeed. Posse Scholars attend college in teams of 10 to provide critical peer support for one another.

Umojia partners with 20 CPS schools to increase the capacity of teachers and administrators to support students’ needs through coaching, professional development opportunities and Umoja University. Grant supports its Seminar program, which seeks to ensure that students have access to the essential tools to graduate with postsecondary options as well as engage the school community in school-wide change.

Grant supports Becoming a Man (BAM) and Working on Womanhood (WOW) Programs, school-based group counseling and clinical mentoring programs that serve students in grades 7-12. Both programs provide effective, evidence-based services that have the ability to move the needle on academic readiness and crime reduction in our city.
